REFLECTION TASK 3- NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT PPT (POWERPOINT)
My reflection
I know for myself that PowerPoint is a dreaded topic. As a previous student to the horrors of boring click through PowerPoints, I understand how boring they can be. But there is a flip side. Thanks to the genius' who spend hours upon hours evolving technology, we can now enjoy PowerPoint and create something extravagant. And that is why I am here today! To share how EXCITING PowerPoint can actually be (shock! thank goodness for evolving technology).
Now, let's talk about the purposes of PowerPoint:
1- To persuade
2- To narrate
3- To educate
Simple right!!!! But it doesn't always seem simple. I would like to now share a video that I have found helpful through my endless journey of using PPT.
1- It is visually impactful. Making your presentation more interesting through the use of multimedia can help to improve the audience's focus. PowerPoint allows you to use images, audio and video to have a greater visual impact. These visual and audio cues may also help a presenter be more improvisational and interactive with the audience
2- It is a collaborative space.PowerPoint allows you to work with other people in a collaborative manner. This is especially useful in education setting where teamwork is key. Multiple people can collaborate on and contribute to a presentation. By going to the "Review" tab at the top of the program and clicking the "New Comment" button, you can leave notes.
3- Content sharing. Did someone miss your presentation? Have them view it online at a time that is convenient for them. You can upload your presentation to websites such as YouTube. Go to "File," "Save and Send" and "Create a Video."
4- It is flexible. Slides are completely customisable to fit your needs. Depending on your approach, you may want to have a presentation that is text-heavy, image-heavy or some combination of both.
How is this safe? Legal? & Ethical??
As with any website, there are a number of legal, safe and ethical protocols that need to be followed by students and teachers. For safety of myself and my students, I would only allow students to share their slideshows with other students in the class and myself. This would avoid and protect them from any inappropriate comments being made by others that can have access to the presentations by shared internet. With copyright, I will make sure that I am referencing where appropriate to model to the students that plagiarism is a huge no no.
SAMR model within the classroom
Substitution: Students can create slides of graphs and diagrams of their scientific findings instead of handrawing them
Augmentation: Students can add audio and voiceovers to their slides to explain what they have discovered
Modification: They can incorporate links to show expert data or to show photos of their work
Redefinition: Allow the teacher to comment on their slides to improve their work
Hope you all have enjoyed this blog and have learnt a lil trick or two😌
